Heartache: Ronald and Shirley McDowell with son Raymond
Shirley s grieving son Raymond said his mother fell to pieces and stopped eating when former factory worker Ronald (75), who was suffering from an inoperable brain tumour, went into Kintullagh Nursing Home, where he would spend his last days.
Tests confirmed that Shirley was suffering from, among other things, cancer of the lymph nodes. Once my dad died, I just think she gave up, Raymond said.

There was one further death in Fermanagh and Omagh in the past 24 hours as cases continue to rise in the district. 130 new cases have been recorded by the Department of Health in Thursday update bringing the total to 3,668 in the Fermanagh and Omagh District. Across Northern Ireland, total positive cases rose to 72,834 following a further 1,929 positive cases reported by the Department. 8,228 people have tested positive for the virus in the last seven days. Breaking down Fermanagh by postal district shows from December 21-27, BT92 has 72 positive cases, BT74 has 63, BT94 has 55 and BT93 has 40. Fermanagh and Omagh currently has a seven day per 100k. However, there have still been 599 positive cases in the last week compared to 359 from December 17-23.

A VIDEO POSTED on social media has wrongly claimed that information on hospital capacity in Northern Ireland in mid-December was fabricated.
An Irish Twitter account posted footage of Antrim Area Hospital on 17 December to claim that the hospital was “empty” and that the hospital had lied about being under strain.
The video and claim have since been reshared by social media users on other platforms.
