Health district has 3 vaccine clinics next week
One of three COVID-19 vaccine clinics next week will have evening hours.
The clinics conducted by the health district are:
► By appointment: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Abilene Convention Center.
► Pop-up clinic: 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Abilene Convention Center (one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine).
As of Wednesday, 70,745 doses had been administered in Taylor County, she said
Statewide, there have been 11.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered as of April 2, Lerma said.
A Thursday clinic at the Abilene Convention Center had 1,750 people scheduled, with 2,000 doses available, she said.
And the health department is preparing for a drive-thru clinic Saturday at Shotwell Stadium, with 1,000 doses available of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
As of Thursday morning, 779 of 800 reservation slots for that event had been filled, though 200 doses would be available for an unscheduled line, Lerma said, on a first come, first served basis.
Lerma said she was encouraged to see more younger people coming for vaccinations, though she cautioned that while 16-year-olds, with a consenting adult present, are able to get the Pfizer vaccine, only those 18 and up can take vaccinations made by Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
