Massillon City School employees get first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

The Independent MASSILLON  Brian Sifferlin didn t hesitate when Massillon City Schools officials asked if he wanted the COVID-19 vaccine.  He was the first staff member at Washington High School to get the shot on Monday. The city Health Department provided 130 doses to high school employees and another 30 to staff at the administrative building. Earlier next week, the agency will vaccinate about 180 staff members at the district s three elementary schools as well as at St. Mary and St. Barbara catholic schools and Massillon Christian School. They will vaccinate about 200 staff members at the Massillon Intermediate and Junior High Schools and R.G. Drage Career Technical Center later that week.

OSF contacting patients in vaccine signup Star Courier As the State of Illinois moved into Phase 1b of COVID-19 vaccine distribution, OSF HealthCare is preparing to offer vaccinations to some patients. The Henry and Stark County Health Department is managing the Henry and Stark county allocation of vaccines. On Monday, online registration through the Health Department opened for those 65 years and older, Phase 1A, and 1B residents. “In some areas across our Ministry, OSF HealthCare received a limited number of doses, which will be offered to those who are 65 years old and older, who are at the highest risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing complications,” said Sarah Overton, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer and vice president of clinical services for OSF Multispecialty Services. Stark Health Dept holds first COVID-19 vaccine clinic for seniors

PLAIN TWP.  At least an hour before the first shot was even ready, folks began arriving at the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities headquarters eager to get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Stark County Health Department scheduled the 420 doses each going to someone 80 years old or older for fixed times throughout the day. That didn t stop people from arriving early to secure a place in line. Mary Powell, 87, of Jackson Township, was the first to go, rolling up the sleeves of her purple blouse and baring her shoulder for nurse Shannon Gahagan. Powell expected the shot to hurt. She d watched others get the vaccine on TV and noticed how large the needle looked. But she didn t feel anything at all.
