Marshal Pete Elliott announced today that the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force has surpassed 50,000 arrests. Tuesday afternoon, members of the NOVFTF Canton Division arrested Brannon Newell. Newell marks the 50,000th arrest by the task force over an 18-year period.

CANTON – A jury has acquitted a Stark County doctor accused of sexually assaulting a minor following his trial in Common Pleas Court. I want all my patients in the area to know that their physician is not capable of doing this. I am innocent, not guilty, Dr. Joseph Cook, 54 of Tuscarawas Township said later Friday following the jury s decision.
Cook said he cried after leaving the Stark County Courthouse, and then called his supporters to relay the news of his acquittal.
Cook was arrested last May by U.S. Marshals and Stark County Sheriff’s deputies. He was later indicted by a Stark County grand jury on one count each of rape, a first-degree felony, and gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony, stemming from allegations of sexual contact with a young girl sleeping over at his home in December 2019.

CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - Friends and family of 38-year-old Rebecca Jean Rogers are gathering Tuesday morning to remember the life of their one.
Rogers was killed Friday morning while working as a waitress at the Bob Evans on Lest Street.
Police identified the suspect in Rogers’ killing as 54-year-old Richard James Nelson. Police, as well as friends and family, said Nelson was an ex-boyfriend of Rogers’.

The jury trial for Jason McDermitt began on April 2 in front of Stark County Court of Common Pleas Judge Natalie Haupt.
On April 8, jurors found McDermitt guilty of aggravated murder and menacing by stalking. Morgan Fox was murdered on 10/28/2020. (Source: Obit)
