CANTON A Stark County man has been deemed mentally competent to stand trial on allegations he bludgeoned a 64-year-old man to death with a hammer inside a mobile home park trailer in the summer of 2019.
During a hearing Monday, Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione said a psychologist recently found that Lee V. Berry has been restored to competency and understands the legal proceedings in his case.
However, Forchione granted a request by Berry s attorney for another psychological evaluation and second opinion. Berry is represented by Kenneth Frame of the Stark County Public Defender s Office.
A trial date won t be scheduled until after the new evaluation, depending on the findings.

CANAL FULTON, Ohio (WOIO) - After obtaining a search warrant into the Canal Fulton apartment complex that exploded, authorities found numerous pieces of evidence pointing to a butane hash oil lab as the cause.
Canal Fulton Police Chief Douglas Swartz said first responders from Canal Fulton and Lawrence Township police and fire departments were sent to the 650 block of Colony Road for an explosion at approximately 8:48 p.m. on Feb. 25.

CANTON The Stark County man who designed what he touted as an innovative radial engine faces a 28-count indictment accusing him of more than $600,000 in securities and investment fraud.
Charles M. Boulton, 67, of Jackson Township, was indicted Jan. 21 and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Friday in Stark County Common Pleas Court.
Boulton is accused of defrauding seven investors in three startup businesses owned and operated by the defendant Radial Engine Innovations, Radia M92 Inc. and Radia R&D LLC.
Charges include 24 counts of unlawful securities practices, including securities fraud and misrepresentation in the sale of securities. He also is charged with telecommunications fraud, theft from a person in a protected class and theft.
