Purdue University’s College of Agriculture food drive recently raised $43,947.56 for Food Finders Food Bank Inc. According to metrics provided by Food Finders, this amount translates to 133,900 meals that will feed families in North Central Indiana. The College of Agriculture was joined in the drive by nine other major academic units: Purdue Libraries; the colleges of Education, Engineering, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, Pharmacy and Science; the Honors College; and Purdue Polytechnic Institute.

Direct marketing programs for diverse farm operations
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Owners and operators of diverse farm operations are invited to join Purdue Extension specialists and educators and Indiana agribusinesses for a free virtual series, Direct Farm Marketing.
Extension specialists and educators, along with guest speakers, will discuss how to enhance the sales of produce, animal products and value-added processing through marketing education. Participants will learn direct marketing basics and specific market types and strategies.
Purdue Extension educators from Allen, Dekalb, Hancock, Howard, LaGrange, St. Joseph and Warrick counties are hosting the Direct Farm Marketing series 7-8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesdays beginning April 21 and ending May 26, via Zoom. The series schedule is as follows:

The 2021 Midwest Vegetable Production Guide for Commercial Growers (ID-56) is available online to download for free. This annual guide is a summary of currently suggested vegetable varieties, seeding rates, fertilizer rates, weed control, insect control and disease control measures for commercial growers. The online version found at mwveguide.org is searchable by crop, pest and control measures and is accessible on any platform from smartphone to desktop. The 2021 version of ID-56 will not be offered for sale as hard copies by Purdue Extension. Spirally bound copies of the guide may be ordered.
