When it comes to COVID-19, SU can only do so much. Students must step up.

Since Feb. 13, there have been a total of 119 positive COVID-19 tests among people accessing campus, and as of Tuesday, there are 133 students in quarantine. The sudden rise in cases is linked to a string of large or maskless parties hosted off-campus.
The disregard for social distancing and the dangers of COVID-19 have placed the spring semester at risk, though New York state will now require SU to shut down only if its positivity rate reaches 5%, or 880 cases. Regardless of whether testing has improved or SU has implemented new guidelines, students should be as careful if not more careful than last semester.
BALDWINSVILLE â A 44-year-old father died at a hospital after he and his son were in an altercation with their upstairs neighbors this week, resulting in both being shot and a woman being struck with a shovel.
Shortly after midnight Monday, officers from the Baldwinsville Police Department in Onondaga County responded to 2861 Cold Springs Road in the village for a reported shooting. A preliminary investigation determined that a man and woman who live in the second-floor apartment got into a fight with a father and son who live on the first floor, according to state police.
During the fight, the female living upstairs was struck in the face with a shovel. Both father and son were struck by gunfire.

He graduated from Nottingham High School in 1959 and Albany College of Pharmacy in 1965.
After working in the family pharmacy for several years, he established medical supply and home health care businesses. He then developed several real estate projects, including Madison Irving Medical Center in Syracuse. Alan also worked to help establish the East Genesee Regent Association (EGRA) and served as president for nearly 30 years.
In addition, he served as a member of the board of directors of several non-profit agencies, including the University Hill Corporation, the Rescue Mission Advisory Board and Syracuse Stage. He also served as the secretary of the Upstate Medical University Foundation.
