APPCB closure notice to Amara Raja Batteries suspended by High Court

AAA The High Court on Thursday suspended the AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) s closure notice to manufacturing units of Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARB) in Chittoor district. It is, however, subject to the condition that ARBL should carry out operations under the supervision of the APPCB and comply with its norms by June 17.
The court directed the APPCB to submit a report after that date and posted the case for further hearing on June 28.
It may be recalled that the APPCB issued notices to ARBL on April 30 for closing its manufacturing plants at Karakambadi and Nunegundlapalli in Chittoor district for allegedly violating the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

Earlier on April 30, the PCB had directed the company to close the plants immediately.
In a relief to Amara Raja Batteries Limited, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has stayed the operation of the notice of the AP Pollution Control Board for the closure of the company plants situated at Karkambadi and Nunegundlapalli in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh.
The Pollution Board had issued the notice on April 30 and directed the batteries major promoted by the family of the Telugu Desam Party MP Jayadev Galla for closure of the plants with immediate effect.

Also initiates measures to protect stakeholders’ interest Amara Raja Batteries Limited on Saturday stated that it is taking all necessary steps to comply with the Orders of the AP Pollution Control Board which had served closure orders (on April 30) of the company plants situated at Karkambadi and Nunegundlapalli in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh.
The order called for closure of both the plants with immediate effect.
The company stated that it has initiated steps to comply with the APPCB orders and has also pressed into action its contingency plans to avoid dislocation in supplies of batteries to customers across product segments including essential service segments like defence, hospitals and telecom.
