Amarillo Opera returns to stage with focus on community enrichment

Amarillo Opera returns to stage with focus on community enrichment VIDEO: Amarillo Opera Returns To The Stage, Schools and Nursing Homes By Penny Kmitt | April 20, 2021 at 9:03 AM CDT - Updated April 20 at 9:33 AM AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Opera returns to the stage this weekend with their performance of ‘R. S. B. E Remove Shoes Before Entering,’ but their entrance back into the Amarillo art scene goes beyond on-stage performances. “The core of Amarillo Opera really is the community enrichment. That’s what we’re here to do,” Chancelor Barbaree, director of education and outreach for Amarillo Opera. “Education and outreach really is the heart of this, and we weren’t able to do anything this year.”

Amarillo Opera to host new production Remove Shoes Before Entering

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the original production of Amarillo Opera’s “Remove Shoes Before Entering” had to be postponed back in November, with the group not knowing at the time when members of the community would be able to see it performed.  However, the opera is making it a priority for this story to be told and for this music to be heard by the Texas Panhandle community, helping opera be reached by members of the community it may not always be accessible to.  The opera will host three performances of Remove Shoes Before Entering  at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the concert hall on the Washington Street campus of Amarillo College.
