UN Seeks $29.2 Million for Caribbean Island Sacked by Volcanic Eruptions
United Nations has launched a $29.2 million global funding appeal to aid citizens of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines affected by the major eruptions spewing from La Soufrière volcano, pledging to remain a “steadfast partner”.
Volcanic eruptions in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, affected around 30,000 people, and left the entire population of the main island without clean water and electricity.
Reports from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), showed that about 30,000 evacuees on the Caribbean island are currently in need of shelter.

COVID-19 cases and deaths have been rising at a worrisome pace since the middle of February with no downturn in sight, and with about a third of all pandemic cases and deaths reported in the last 3 months alone, the World Health Organization (WHO) said yesterday in its weekly snapshot of the pandemic.
India s cases soar as Brazil s show signs of slowing
Hot spots continue to vary by region, with the sharpest rises in the region that includes India, where daily cases today topped 300,000 for the first time. Other hard hit areas include the Middle East and the Western Pacific area, though cases are rising in all of the WHO s regions except for Europe.
The COVID-19 vaccine continues to be a source of discussion as countries strive to defeat the pandemic.
Recent reports of countries halting the rollout of some vaccines due to reports of deaths may have increased existing anti-vaccination messaging being shared online.
But do the pros of taking the vaccine outweigh the cons? Here are some things to consider:
1. Blood clots very rare
Regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Union body in charge of the evaluation and supervision of medicinal products, said in an April 7, 2021 report that the “overall benefits of the vaccine continue to outweigh the risks in people vaccinated”.
