Distinguished senior scientist emeritus Arthur Poskanzer spent the majority of his career working at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, or Berkeley Lab, where he developed some of his great achievements in nuclear physics. He died June 30, two days after his 90th birthday. Poskanzer was constantly thinking. During hikes in the woods or at home, sitting in his chair and propping his feet up on the ottoman, Poskanzer sought out his scientific notions through moments of silence, according to Lucille Poskanzer, his wife of 67 years. Once he thought of something, he would whip out the little voice recorder he stored in his pocket and start speaking.
