What occurred at the United States Capitol last week was surely reprehensible, but to my mind the real enduring damage that was done to our form of government took place in a basement in Wilmington Delaware where president-designate Joe Biden was putting together some of the final pieces of his foreign policy and national security team. Hopes that the Democrats would accommodate their progressive wing to some extent by backing off of the aggressive “American first” policies pursued by Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo were extinguished with the elevation of Wendy Sherman and
JNS.org – Jewish and pro-Israel groups expressed condolences over the loss of Jewish and pro-Israel donor Sheldon Adelson.
Adelson, a Republican megadonor and business titan, died on Jan. 11 at the age of 87 from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Following the news, the following Jewish and pro-Israel groups that have benefited from Adelson’s philanthropy expressed their condolences.
“We mourn the passing of Sheldon Adelson, who lived a remarkable life and was an extraordinary supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship, and we extend our condolences to his wife Miriam and his entire family,” tweeted the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
Planes from the Arab world landed as much on Israeli airports as they did on the hearts of the Palestinians.
AS the US-led ‘recognition blitz’ that made four Arab states recognise Israel rocked the Middle East and changed the region’s geopolitical ecology, the Arab-Islamic world wondered whether the Saudi regime that proudly proclaims itself to be the Guardian of the Two Holy Places would follow suit. Indeed 2020 was one of the worst years for the Palestinian people, the Palestinian Authority calling it a betrayal of its people.
Not without Saudi blessings did the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain extend official recognition to Israel, followed, as if on cue, by Sudan and Morocco. The recognition violated a number of UN resolutions besides the 2002 Arab plan, reaffirmed in 2017, which provided for Israel s withdrawal from occupied territories in return for recognition by all Islamic countries.
