Pregnancy can increase the risk of morbidity and mortality in women with cardiovascular disease; however, many cardiologists are not having pre-pregnancy contraception discussions with their patients of child-bearing age. There is a need to provide evidence-based guidance for contraceptive safety and effectiveness and pregnancy planning options for this high-risk patient group, according to a paper published in the
Journal of the American College of Cardiology (

According to MedStar, the increase in response volume for patients who are likely having a heart attack could be a sign that normalcy is returning.
MedStar said crews were concerned during 2020 with the decline in daily response volume for potential heart attack victims, fearing people may be afraid to call 911 due to COVID-19 and that leading to cardiac arrest cases.
According to an article by the American College of Cardiology, “Deaths from ischemic heart disease and hypertensive diseases in the United States increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
ACC Launches NCDR Electrophysiology Device Implant Registry
Formerly the ICD Registry, the new EP name reflects expanded offerings and aligns with other quality programs
The new ACC Electrophysiology (EP) Device Implant Registry, part of the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) will include data on implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) procedures previously captured in the NCDR ICD Registry, as well as provide the flexibility to capture novel pacemaker procedures. The registry is aligned with the ACC’s Electrophysiology Accreditation program, fully supporting the program’s data requirements.
