Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards, a devout Catholic who has advanced bills and laws making Louisiana among the most-restrictive abortion rights states in the country, signed Republican Houma Rep. Beryl Amedee s House Bill 579 into law. Supporters say the law gives patients information on how to continue their pregnancies if they regret their initial decision, but opponents say providing unproven information could be dangerous.
