The VA will mandate vaccines for its health workers in Oregon

SALEM — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced it will require COVID-19 vaccinations for its front-line health care employees, including doctors, nurses and dentists. Employees will have eight weeks to be fully vaccinated and can get the shot for free at any VA facility. It makes the VA the first health care system in Oregon to require the vaccination; state law generally prevents such mandates for health care workers. Nationwide, many health care systems are making COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for their workforces, as vaccination rates have stalled and the delta variant is leading to yet another surge in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations.

Wisconsin health systems mandating COVID-19 vaccines for employees

Ascension Wisconsin said Tuesday that it will require employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine by Nov.12, becoming the third large health system in Wisconsin to impose the mandate. SSM Health on June 28 and Mayo Clinic Health System on Monday announced that employees, excluding exemptions for medical or religious reasons, would be required to be vaccinated. Ascension said the requirement will apply to all employees, excluding those medical or religious exemptions, whether they work at its hospitals and clinics or remotely. It also will apply to people employed by subsidiaries and contractors, independent physicians and other health care providers not employed by the health system, volunteers and vendors entering its buildings.
