Dr. David E. Persse launched his career in medicine as a field paramedic and paramedic instructor in upstate New York and New Jersey. After receiving his pre-med training at Columbia University, he attended Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Persse then completed residency training in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif.
Dr. Persse completed fellowship training in emergency medical services and resuscitation at the Baylor College of Medicine and the City of Houston Emergency Medical Services program. Following his EMS fellowship, Dr. Persse became the assistant medical director for the Emergency Medical Services system of Houston. He then became medical director of the Los Angeles County Paramedic Training Institute, and the assistant medical director of the Los Angeles County EMS Agency. In 1996, Dr. Persse

Dr. Ahmed is a physician, non-fiction author and broadcast media commentator. Her work has been published in The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The Spectator, Al Jazeera, The Independent, USA Today, The Daily Beast, the World Policy Journal, Fox News, CNN, and many others.
Dr. Ahmed is the first physician, and first Muslim woman, to be awarded the Templeton-Cambridge Fellowship in Journalism at the University of Cambridge, England.
In 2012, she testified to Congress on Radical Islam in the United States. She subsequently has provided Congressional Briefings at the invitation of Congressional Staff on the issues of Palestinian child radicalization in the Disputed Territories. In 2016, she was nominated to Life Membership at the Council on Foreign Relations in the United States in recognition of her journalistic work focusing on Islamism.

DOBSON Each member of Facilities and Maintenance Department at Surry Community College recently earned a certificate in Lean Six Sigma White Belt Training from the United Quality Management Institute.
The 21-member team completed a four-hour training session that began Oct. 13, and ended Jan. 15. Their instructor was Dr. Ron Fite of the United Quality Management Institute.
“I watched presentations about the facilities and maintenance projects as a part of the class competition,” said SCC President Dr. David Shockley. “I was so proud of our employees detailing how they will make their areas lean and more efficient. Other areas of the college team will go through lean training including human resources, finance, technology services, and advising.”
Dr. Valley s research focuses on understanding and improving decision-making in the intensive care unit (ICU). His primary line of research seeks to identify the patients most likely to benefit from intensive care, allowing clinicians to safely triage patients between the ICU and the general ward. Ultimately, he hopes to identify ICU-based therapies that can be transferred to the general ward to improve hospital efficiency and reduce healthcare costs. Dr. Valley’s research interests also include ensuring all critically ill individuals receive the best possible care, regardless of where they are hospitalized.
