The Biden team has hired a slate of immigration judges initially selected during the Trump era, angering advocates who argue the White House is already failing to deliver in its pledge to push back against the prior administration's shaping of the judiciary.
Why an Estimated 100,000 Americans Abroad Face Passport Problems
Consular appointments for U.S. citizens overseas are nearly impossible to come by as many embassies, plagued by Covid restrictions and staff reductions, remain all but closed.

Yona Shemesh, 24, was born in Los Angeles, but he moved to Israel with his family at age 9. In July 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic was raging, he booked a ticket to Los Angeles to visit his grandparents in June 2021, knowing that he would have nearly an entire year to renew his American passport, which had long since expired.

More than one-third of new global cases of COVID-19 have occurred in India, and the numbers are increasing.
As a result, President Biden has added the Republic of India to the list of countries whose nationals and visitors (with some exceptions) are subject to travel restrictions on entering the United States.
Although the addition of India to the list of restricted countries is understandable, it will add a layer of unpredictability for U.S. employers as well as the non-immigrants who are subject to the Proclamation.
Exemptions
Fiancé (K-1) and approved immigrant visa holders are exempt and are deemed to be in the national interest, consistent with the April 8 announcement by the U.S. Department of State.
MUMBAI: The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has in a court filing, with a US district court, stated its plan to suspend biometric requirements for H-4 and L-2 visa holders who are seeking work permits. This suspension is expected to speed up the processing of applications.
Spouses of H-1B visa holders hold an H-4 dependent visa whereas spouses of those on an intra-company transfer – L1 visa holders, hold an L-2 visa. While spouses of those on intra-company transfers are authorised to seek employment, only those spouses of H-1B visa holders who are on track for a green card are eligible to work. Delays in the processing of work authorisation applications impact both groups adversely.
