The Return of Gaslighting - Christine Rosen, Commentary Magazine

The Return of Gaslighting During the four years of Donald Trump’s presidency, the press and political pundits frequently made use of the term “gaslighting” to describe Trump’s approach to the truth. Countless articles (and even a book) outlined the myriad ways Trump obfuscated, lied, and misled the public. “Gaslighting” was the runner-up for 2018 word of the year. What a difference a change of administration makes. Not only have outlets like the Washington Postannounced that there is no need to keep an exhaustive, fact-checking database of the Biden Administration’s lies as it did for Trump, but many publications have proven themselves eager to carry water for Democrats and their most devoted special interest groups.

So Much for Science? The CDC Is Still Getting Talking Points from Teachers Unions

(AP Photo/Susan Walsh) The CDC’s latest guidance on school re-opening came far too late, leaving students and parents in the lurch as the school year dragged on with seemingly no chance for a lot of students to be able to return to schools. The blame for these extended closures lays squarely at the feet of the teachers unions, who fought like hell to keep schools closed and only did an about-face on the issue here at the end of the year. That latest CDC guidance (and indeed every step they’ve taken and every statement they’ve made on schools throughout the pandemic) is now suspect, however. As it turns out, not only did the unions convince the CDC to advise that schools slow-walk their re-openings, but as it turns out the latest talking points are practically verbatim the talking points the unions gave them.

A Vision of Racial and Economic Justice | Dissent Magazine

A Vision of Racial and Economic Justice A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin knew the fate of the civil rights and labor movements were intertwined. The same is true today. Bayard Rustin, A. Philip Randolph, and John Morsell hold a press conference in 1963. (Library of Congress) Norman Hill and Velma Murphy Hill began their careers in the civil rights movement in the late 1950s in Chicago, where they met and married. A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin acted as their mentors through every major event in the fight for civil rights. Below, the Hills reflect on the organizing principles that drove their mentors’ activism and struggle.
