That sound you hear coming from teacher unions today is likely a verse or two of “Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead”. Status quo leftists content to keep poor and middle-class school children in failing schools are very happy to learn that Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos submitted her letter of resignation to President Trump on Thursday evening.
DeVos points to the violent riots at the Capitol Wednesday as her reason to leave the cabinet now instead of in twelve days when Joe Biden is inaugurated. She references the fact that children witnessed it all and points a finger at Trump.
Betsy DeVos, the West Michigan political force who rose to education secretary, late Thursday became the latest high-profile resignation among presidential appointees, saying President Donald Trump incited a mob that invaded the Capitol on Wednesday. We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people, DeVos wrote in a letter to the president. Instead we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protesters overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people s business. That behavior was unconscionable for our country. “Resigning 13 days before the end of this administration does nothing to erase the harm Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has done to this country’s students, their families, and educators,” Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association (NEA), said in a statement. “She has failed our students yet again when they needed her most. WASHINGTON - Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, one of President Donald Trump s longest-serving and most loyal Cabinet members and also one of his most controversial, submitted her resignation Thursday, citing the president s role in the riot on Capitol Hill. There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me, she wrote in a letter to Trump. The behavior of the violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol was unconscionable, she wrote. Impressionable children are watching all of this, and they are learning from us. I believe we each have a moral obligation to exercise good judgment and model the behavior we hope they would emulate, she wrote. They must know from us that America is greater than what transpired yesterday.
