Today, the arts, entertainment, and media unions affiliated with the Department for Professional Employees, AFL-CIO (DPE) announced their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy agenda during a digital press conference with union leaders, staff, and members. The DEI policy agenda details the legislative action the unions will urge members of Congress to support to help make their industries more representative.

The Philharmonic says it needs to take steps to reduce its budget moving forward, including a reduction in the number of full-time player positions. “Ensuring a financially sustainable future requires adjusting the business structure so the Philharmonic can live within its means,” the organization says in an email provided to The Journal Gazette by director of marketing and public relations Emily Shannon after a request for a phone interview with management was declined.

Among the legislative goals set by the unions is a push to get Congress to consider federal tax incentives for productions that come with diversity requirements, pointing to incentives already applied in states like Illinois and New York that reward productions that hire more women and people of color in front of and behind the camera.
