MONTGOMERY, AL .- The Board, staff, and community of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts shared the news of the death of Director Emeritus Mark M. Johnson, who died on Friday, June 25, 2021, after a long illness. Johnson, who was an esteemed scholar and museum director, led the MMFA from 1994 until his retirement in 2017 when, as the longest-serving chief executive of the institution, he was named the Museum’s first Director Emeritus. Over the course of his tenure, Johnson shaped the institution in many ways, including the addition of hundreds of works of art to the collection, organizing a number of exhibitions and publications, and leading two significant expansions of the Museum.

Arana Shapiro Arana Shapiro joined Games for Change in 2019 as the Managing Director and Chief Learning Officer where she oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization as well as providing strategic and programmatic support on all learning initiatives.  Arana is the former Executive Director of Institute of Play, a NYC-based nonprofit organization that focused on transforming education through games and play.  At IOP Arana led the Institute’s strategy, growth, development, and operations.  She also oversaw the Institute’s major initiatives in relation to school design, leadership, and school-based partnerships. She has over twenty years of experience in education and nonprofit management, as a teacher, educational technologist, curriculum developer, and organizational leader.
