From the time of his long journey on a sailing ship in 1790 to now when Gopalan s daughter is going to be Vice President, it is also a long political journey for Indians in the US.

Telangana NRI among others conferred Parvasi Samman Award By News Desk|   Posted by Neha  |   Published: 13th January 2021 11:35 pm IST Muralidhar Miryala By Irfan Mohammed Jeddah: Japanese-based Telangana NRI scientist was among the 30 NRIs including three from the Gulf who were conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award on Saturday. The award is the highest honour conferred by the President of India as part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Conventions on a Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Person of Indian Origin (PIO), and organization or institution established and run by NRIs or PIOs. Besides a known Telugu doctor in the USA, Sudhakar Jonnalagadda of Andhra Pradesh, Saudi-based entrepreneur Siddeek Ahmed and a known community worker and ENT doctor in Qatar, Mohan Thomas and Bahrain businessman K.G. Baburajan – all three Malayalis – were among others awarded the highest honour of NRIs.

Accomplished Indian Americans Honored with 2021 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award

India’s President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the awards during the 16 th edition of the annual Pravasi Bhartiya Divas convention, which was held virtually this year. The convention is a flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs and provides an important platform to engage and connect with the overseas Indians. The theme of the convention, aimed at encouraging the Indian diaspora to be part of socio-economic development in India, was “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” The Indian American recipients of the award this year include: Dr. Sudhakar Jonnalagadda for medicine; Dr. Arvind Phukan for environment technology; Nilu Gupta for promoting Indian culture; and Dr. Mukesh Aghi for business.
