Washington:
Less than a fortnight after President Joe Biden in his conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged his country s steadfast support for the people of India, America has responded with an unprecedented financial assistance worth nearly USD half a billion.
Thousands of oxygen concentrators and plane loads of life saving drugs and health care equipment are flying off the United States for India almost every day.
Several companies like Boeing and Mastercard have announced financial assistance worth $10 million each, Google has pledged $ 18 million, which the Global Task Force that comprises CEOs of top American companies have already pledged $30 million worth of life saving equipment.
Describing it as a Berlin Life Moment, Mukesh Aghi of US India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF) said he expects the assistance to touch almost $1 billion by the end of the month. It is emotional for the diaspora, almost everyone has someone who has been touched by COVID-19, he said.

Northwell Health, in conjunction with the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, is shipping 1 million KN95 respirators, 35 ventilators and 1,000 oxygen concentrators to India, which is facing a catastrophic second wave of COVID-19.
The industrial-grade O2 concentrators literally pull oxygen out of thin air and can be used anywhere to treat patients. Similar units were used in field hospitals across the United States.
US-based foundation to ship oxygen concentrators to India
Washington– The Indian-American Sehgal Foundation, based in Des Moines, Iowa, announced that it will ship 200 oxygen concentrators to seven Indian states on Thursday.
“Working in close coordination with local partners and government officials, the Sehgal Foundation team on the ground in India is ensuring that the equipment is directly reaching those who need it the most in public hospitals in villages across 7 states,” the American Bazaar quoted the Foundation as saying in a statement.
“In the coming week, more oxygen cylinders, ventilators, personal protective equipment, rapid diagnostic tests, and therapeutics will be sent.”
