January 14, 2021 - 8:34am The American Legislative Exchange Council entered into a new partnership last month with a radical-right pro-Trump group, Turning Point USA, that played a major role in promoting Trump s lies about voter fraud and organizing the Jan. 6 rally aimed at overturning the presidential election, documents obtained by the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) reveal. While the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) released a statement on the day of the riot saying that it condemns the lawless, extreme behavior of protestors attempting to block Congressional certification of electoral college votes, it failed to disclose that its partner Turning Point USA (TPUSA) helped organize the #StoptheSteal protest that turned into a deadly insurrection at the Capitol.

He disagreed with Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) when they asked for an investigation to ensure that certified slates of presidential electors were, in fact, those chosen by the people. So Thompson wants the government to punish them. He suggests Cruz and Hawley be placed on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s “no fly” list. Ground them! Thompson’s suggestion is akin to that of an intolerant bully. But it also showed that he’s ignorant of the fundamentals of his job. His remark, like many others issued by federal officials, should tell us this: Stop relying so much on the federal government and start telling state lawmakers to resume their constitutional duties.
