Ernest “Ernie” Cravalho, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at MIT, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, at the age of 82. Cravalho served as a member of MIT’s mechanical engineering faculty for 44 years. Along with his many research contributions in the fields of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and bioengineering, Cravalho helped shape MIT’s thermodynamics education into what it is today.

Dubai: An Arab woman is on the cusp of joining an elite group of space pioneers. The UAE announced Nora Al Matrooshi, a 27-year-old Emirati engineer, as one for the country’s two new astronauts. She was chosen alongside Mohammed Al Mulla, 33, a pilot.
Al Matrooshi is the first female Arab astronaut. There had been only 65 women in space. She was chosen from over 4,000 candidates to be trained for future exploration missions. The two form the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Programme. The announcement was made by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on Twitter.

Nora AlMatrooshi was born in 1993 and she is from the emirate of Sharjah. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the United Arab Emirates University in 2015 along with training from the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland.
AlMatrooshi is a member of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers and is currently working as an engineer at the National Petroleum Construction Company.
Her career accomplishments include managing engineering projects for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
She was also the vice president of the Youth Council for three consecutive years at the National Petroleum Construction Company.
