What is body dysmorphic disorder?
When Los Angeles bodybuilder and fitness coach Lindsey Marie Greeley was just 17 years old, she competed in her first bodybuilding show. She would stare in the mirror in the weeks leading up to competitions, trapped in her head, obsessed with having the perfect body. She would be devastated by a third-place ranking and by constructive criticism from the judges such as You still aren t small enough; you need to lose more weight.
Before long, she d developed body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), along with an eating disorder. The condition strikes about one in 50 Americans, and not just athletes and bodybuilders, according to the International OCD Foundation.

Earlier this year, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) conducted a survey and discovered that almost 50% of respondents said that they would be open to getting their first plastic surgery in the near future.
But if we go back a mere 6 years, a similar 2014 survey found that only 17% of those surveyed would consider plastic surgery, and 49% were categorically against the idea.

Shortly before the new year, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported a new and somewhat unexpected COVID-19 vaccine side effect: facial swelling.
Two people a 46-year-old and a 51-year-old who d received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine during clinical trials experienced temporally associated (meaning on the side of the face) swelling within two days of receiving their second dose of the shot, according to the report. The suspected cause of the swelling? Cosmetic filler. Both subjects had prior dermal filler, the FDA stated in the report. The agency didn t share any more information, and a publicist for Moderna did not return
