Tate & Lyle s profits expand as consumers seek out healthier food and drinks

Sweeteners maker Tate & Lyle saw its profits expand on the back of higher levels of at-home consumption and a strong showing by new products despite total revenues sliding by £75million. Profits grew by £8million to £253million in the year to the end of March 2021 as increased sales and robust prices for products like corn oil helped almost doubled profits in its commodities category. Adjusted operating profits in its primary products segment also grew by 5 per cent, even as it was hurt by weaker sales of sweeteners and the closure of schools and offices negatively impacting demand for printing and writing paper.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (“LDEQ”) and American Sugar Refining, Inc., (“ASRI”) entered into an April 14th Settlement addressing alleged violations of a Louisiana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (“LPDES”) permit. See Docket Nos. 2018-7981-DEQ, 2020-5076-DEQ. The Settlement provides that ASRI owns and/or operates a crystalline cane sugar refinery facility (“Facility”) located in Arabi, Louisiana. LDEQ is stated to have issued to ASRI the following: On September 20, 2017, a Consolidated Compliance Order & Notice of Potential Penalty, Enforcement No. WE-CN-17-00018 On January 25, 2019, a Consolidated Compliance Order & Notice of Potential Penalty, Enforcement No. WE-CN-18-00625 The alleged violations are stated to be included within the scope of the Settlement.

Crews continue to put out on hotpots after Domino Sugar refinery fire

Baltimore firefighters are still at the Domino Sugar Factory in Locust Point after a fire destroyed the sugar-storage building.It is still a very active scene as remains of the sugar storage facility known as the sugar shack.Fire officials said they let a number of hot spots inside burn overnight because the fire is contained. Now, they are bringing in heavy equipment to help in putting out those hot spots.It isn’t the first time Domino Sugar has had a close call like this.It was a pretty impressive scene on Tuesday as smoke billowed from the Domino Sugar Plant. The heat was so intense, it managed to damage a fire engine.According to American Sugar Refining INC., the fire started in the building known as the sugar shack, which houses raw sugar for refining. I was on the phone talking to somebody and he said, Oh, your place is burning down. I said, What are you talking about? They said, Domino Sugar is on fire.
