Every small city has its share of great athletes, but Norwich has a truly exceptional history. Here are short profiles of a few of these local athletes, all of whom are in the NFA/Norwich Sports Hall of Fame.

Holyoke Community College, American International College see future jobs in cannabis

Holyoke Community College is offering a cannabis program with an eye on future job opportunities in the burgeoning field. An instructor demonstrates how to make cookie batter using cannabidiol (CBD oil) extracted from hemp during a cannabis culinary assistant training program.

HOLYOKE Jeffrey Hayden says the clientele for Holyoke Community College’s cannabis industry training program is different than he expected.
“If you’d asked me a year or two ago, I would have probably gone with the stereotype and said we’d get young males in their 20s who think, ‘This is cool, man,’” said Hayden, the college vice president of business and community services.

Slowey McManus Communications of Boston hired
BRITTANY MURPHY as a senior account executive. She is an alumna of Emerson College in Boston, where she received a degree in journalism. Prior to this she was at Western Mass News as the main anchor on morning and afternoon segments. Murphy will primarily work from Central Massachusetts and provide clients with a range of public relation services.

Webster Five hired
IZZY CRUZ as assistant vice president, senior branch manager at its Shrewsbury branch. He earned his certificate in finance and credit from the Connecticut School of Finance and Management. Cruz holds more than 15 years of experience in the banking industry. In this role, he will oversee daily operations at the Shrewsbury branch and focus on business development and participating in community outreach.

Remembering the sports people we lost in 2020; Taglieri, Stephans, Lewis among those who left a mark

In the pandemic-ravaged year of 2020, when COVID-19 grabbed the headlines, there were some beloved people in the local sports world who we lost and will never be forgotten.
In August, it felt like time stood still when word that
Lou Taglieri had passed away suddenly at the age of 59. Taglieri was as much Hoboken as Frank Sinatra, as beloved as fresh bread and fresh mozzarella.
It was such a tragic loss that even legendary Super Bowl Most Valuable Player
Eli Manning of the Giants expressed his sadness when Taglieri, the former Hoboken head football coach, passed on. Taglieri had secured JFK Stadium for Manning, then a Hoboken resident, for use for Manning and his teammates during a work stoppage in 2011.
