No. 10 seed Denis Shapovalov of Canada ousted Great Britain s Andy Murray in straight sets Friday, bringing an end to the home-crowd favorite s return to the Wimbledon singles draw.
Shapovalov won their third-round match 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, smashing 13 aces and saving eight of nine break points to wrap Murray s first singles run at the All England Club since 2017.
Murray, the 2013 and 2016 Wimbledon champ, forged an arduous comeback through multiple hip surgeries that he said at one point left him wondering if he d need to retire from tennis.
It was the first time playing at Centre Court for Shapovalov, a fan of Murray s growing up. He said Murray pushed him during an intense first set.
