Flagstaff Boys Hoops Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive With A Win Friday Against ALA-QC The Flagstaff Eagles kept their 4A playoff hopes alive with a 67-57 win over American Leadership Academy-Queen Creek Friday at Flagstaff High School. Josh Lenners led the Eagles with 20 points, including six three-pointers. Fourteen of Lenners’ 20 points came in the second half. Nick Sneezy chipped in with 16 and Nick Morrow and Max Fritsch added ten points each. The Eagles will take on the Lee Williams Volunteers Monday night at 7 p.m. The Flagstaff Eagles girls basketball team was at ALA-Queen Creek and picked up a 63-46 win over the Patriots. The Coconino Panthers improved to 10-0 on the season with a tight 52-47 win at the Thunderbird Chiefs. Preston Olney lead the Panthers with 19 points. The Coconino girls team got a huge win at home against Thunderbird 55-52.

Tooele, Stansbury to compete in Region 7 ♦ After multiple proposals that placed Tooele and Stansbury high schools in Class 5A and Class 4A at various times, the Utah High School Activities Association came to its final decision regarding how the state’s 148 high schools will be aligned across six different classifications on Thursday night. The final region alignment, which will be in effect for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years, places Tooele and Stansbury in Class 5A’s Region 7. The Buffaloes and Stallions will be bumped up from Class 4A’s Region 10, where they had competed for the past four years. They will be joined by familiar foes Cedar Valley and Uintah, both current members of Region 10, along with Cottonwood, Hillcrest and Payson.

The Ducks’ class is ranked atop the Pac-12 for the third straight year and No. 6 nationally in the 247Sports Composite. Four offensive linemen, a trio of heralded receivers, three outside linebackers, pairs of tight ends, safeties and cornerbacks and an inside linebacker, defensive tackle, quarterback and running back made up the class, which has room to add between now and February’s signing period. Stallions, Buffs to remain in Class 4A

UHSAA releases preliminary region alignment for 2021-23 ♦ Stansbury and Tooele high schools will continue to compete in Class 4A in all their sports and activities after all, according to the Utah High School Activities Association’s latest realignment proposal. The UHSAA, which originally had the Stallions and Buffaloes making the jump to Class 5A in its initial realignment proposal last month, placed Stansbury and Tooele in Class 4A’s Region 10 for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years in its initial region alignment released Wednesday. The Stallions and Buffs would be joined by Mountain View, Park City and Uintah in a five-team league for all sports and activities.
