Group Seeks Approval Of Hemp As Animal Feed Ingredient In The USA

The USA’s Hemp Feed Coalition (HFC) has lodged its first submission pleading the case for hemp to become an approved animal feed ingredient.
Two years in its development, the HFC’s submission was lodged with the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration-Center for Veterinary Medicine FDA-CVM. It seeks to make hempseed cake and meal legal for use as a protein supplement for broilers and layer chickens.
We asked four professionals from different sides of the debate to weigh in. Raw Essentials vet Dr Rebecca Brown spends her days consulting with clients about their pets’ health issues and figuring out how she can help them via a species-appropriate raw diet. She’s long had an interest in wholefoods and lives by the quote, often credited to Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Rebecca says the company supports those who choose to give their pets raw food to make sure they do it well. “We frequently observe positive, sometimes phenomenal, health benefits and feel happy to extend this to as many pets as possible.”

The new ice cream line kicks off with two flavors: Pontch s Mix and Rosie s Batch named after employees’ dogs. Pontch is a French bulldog and Rosie is a rescue dog of mixed heritage. Ben & Jerry’s Vermont headquarters is a dog-friendly workplace where there are often up to 40 dogs in the office at any given time.
