“Our graduates can go anywhere, we have students that come from other areas of the country, those specific to our region, and we have established ourselves as having a strong agriculture program, agronomy programs broadly,” said University of Minnesota Crookston Agronomy Lecturer, Rob Proulx, Ph.D.
But it isn’t just Crookston’s agronomy graduates that have become pretty well embedded in a lot of the different companies in this region, particularly American Crystal Sugar. Proulx said the variety of degrees and, in this case, ag, touches everything.
“One concrete example is American Crystal Sugar Company, and of their Agriculturist staff, something like one-third of those individuals have come through the UMN Crookston’s Agronomy program,” Proulx explained.

Warm, dry weather has allowed area growers to get into the fields and start planting the 2021 sugarbeet crop. With near-perfect planting conditions, acres are being planted at a rapid rate.
American Crystal donates to Beltrami Fire and Rescue

American Crystal Sugar Company has awarded Beltrami Fire and Rescue a check for $5,000 to help with the safety equipment purchases.
These funds will be used to purchase rescue flashlights, lights and mounts for fire helmets, gloves, new safety vests, and other safety equipment.
Beltrami Fire and Rescue currently has 20 active members in their volunteer fire department.
They currently service two townships for fire and three townships for medical support. In the past year they have been called to support the Fertile, Crookston, Nielsville and Climax fire departments.
In a release announcing the contribution, American Crystal says it is “proud to support the Beltrami Fire and Rescue and hopes this grant will help to assist with keeping these 20 active volunteer members a little safer.”

Byron Donalds has nearly $500,000 on hand for his 2022 campaign, his first reelection bid. Donalds clocked a solid first quarter since being sworn in to Congress, finance reports show.
Donalds, in the first three months of 2021, raised $365,952, according to his
quarterly report with the Federal Election Commission. But, he’s spending at a rapid clip as well, disbursing $347,431 over the three-month period. Still, he closed the reporting period with $499,416, or about $18,521 more than when he started the year.
