If you have not met Emma, she is a dynamic and fun speaker who is helping to educate hundreds of children around northern New York about science, technology, engineering and mathematics using agriculture as a foundation. Emma is an agricultural educator at Old McDonald’s Farm near Sackets Harbor. Thanks to the Sackets Harbor Agricultural Education and Awareness Center, Old McDonald’s Farm (OMF) and Emma are quickly extending beyond the traditional programming they’ve offered.

Delaware Farm Bureau receives national recognition The Scholar Award was presented to the Delaware Farm Bureau during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s national conference in January. SUBMITTED PHOTO February 28, 2021 Delaware Farm Bureau received national recognition in January for its support of the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture. During the federation’s annual convention in January, the Scholar Award was presented to the Delaware Farm Bureau and other top farm bureaus with the highest total donations to the foundation within their membership groups. The Delaware Farm Bureau also received an Apex Award, which honors state farm bureaus that have increased total contributions to the foundation by 10 percent or more over the previous year, according to AFBF.

Food Industry Wants Skilled Visa Workers to Operate Robots

11 Feb 2021 Robots are replacing unskilled migrants in American farm jobs, but farmers still want skilled migrants to operate the robots, says the president of a major farm advocacy group. “While advances in robotics have replaced some farm jobs, we need skilled employees to manage that equipment,” said Zippy Duvall, the president of the American Farm Bureau Federation. In a February 3 post on the groups’ website, he wrote: U.S. agriculture needs a flexible guest-worker program that allows contract and at-will employment options that work for both seasonal and year-round needs on the farm. We also need to make sure wage requirements take into account the economic conditions of the agriculture industry and enable farms to remain viable.

The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s virtual Young Ag Professionals Winter Leadership Experience this weekend was an opportunity to build personal and professional experience while networking with agricultural leaders.  The theme for the 2021 Winter Leadership Experience was “Cultivating Progress in Times of Change.” The event, thanks to the support of Heritage Sponsor Nationwide and Platinum Sponsor Farm Credit Mid-America, offered participants the capability to connect with industry leaders and see several exciting new opportunities to engage and network with others from around the state. “Just as in past years there will be a lot of great ideas and lessons to take away from the Winter Leadership Experience,” said Charlie and Casey Ellington, chairs of the Young Agricultural Professionals State Committee heading into the meeting. “The engaging speakers and diverse sessions that are lined up will give everyone a chance to learn from others as they look to grow personal
