22 Farm, Ranch, Manufacturer and Labor Groups Support American Blueberry Growers Trade Relief Request

BY R-CALF | January 24, 2021 Billings, Mont. – Thursday January 21, 22 groups representing ranchers, farmers, manufacturers, and workers sent a letter to the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) in support of United States blueberry growers’ request for relief from surges of low-priced imported blueberries that threaten the viability of their domestic farms. In September 2020, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) opened an investigation under Section 201 of the Trade Act of 1974 to determine if United States blueberry growers were being harmed by increased blueberry imports. The American Blueberry Growers Alliance, representing mostly small, family-operated blueberry farmers in states including California, Florida, Georgia and Michigan, alleged that imports of blueberries from Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Canada increased dramatically

Is Grass-Fed Beef Really Better for You & the Environment?

26 Shares Cattle (like sheep, deer, and other grazing animals) are endowed with the ability to convert grasses, which we humans cannot digest, into flesh that we are able to digest. They can do this because, unlike humans, who possess only one stomach, they are ruminants, which is to say that they possess a rumen, a 45-or-so gallon fermentation tank in which resident bacteria convert cellulose into protein and fats. In the US, however, about 97% of the cattle raised for beef spend the latter portion of their lives in feedlots, where they’re fed corn and other grains that humans could eat and they convert it into meat quite inefficiently. Since it takes anywhere from, depending on who is doing the calculation and what they include, four to (according to some estimates) as many as 20 pounds of grain to make a pound of feedlot-derived beef, we actually get far less food out than we put in. What we’ve created is effectively a protein factory in reverse.

Green Gazette: Urban Tree Nursery Project Check out how the city of Savannah, Georgia, is helping to grow the urban forest, enhance workforce skills, and engage community youth with its Urban Tree Nursery. By Amanda Sorell   This lot-turned-nursery on Mills B. Lane Boulevard is one of three places where saplings are being grown. Photo by City of Savannah Urban Tree Nursery Project An early nickname for the city of Savannah, Georgia was “the Forest City.” It’s known for its ample oak trees, which shade city streets and provide environmental resilience. But in recent years, these trees have been suffering damage and dwindling because of city development and an increase in intense storm events. This damage costs the city millions in debris removal and environmental degradation, and the species that have long stood tall in Savannah are diminished.

Will You Eat Cultured Meat Grown From Human Cells?

Will You Eat Cultured Meat Grown From Human Cells? 1 “As the world looks to reset its economy, along with food systems, in a cleaner way post-pandemic, one more sustainable solution coming to fruition is cultured meat … Cultured meat takes much less time to grow, uses fewer of the planet’s resources, and no animals are slaughtered.” Fake Meat Is a Catastrophe for Your Metabolic Health Excess omega-6 fat in the form of linoleic acid (LA) is one of the most significant contributors to metabolic dysfunction. It is literally a metabolic poison that, in my opinion, is the primary contributor to the epidemic in chronic disease we have seen in the past 150 years. I am so passionate about this topic, I’m currently writing a new book with Chris Knobbe about this that will be out next year.
