President Donald Trump savaged Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) on Thursday for vetoing the Save Adolescents From Experimentation Act, or the SAFE Act. As Leah reported, it restricts gender affirming chemical or surgical treatments for those under the age of 18, regardless of parental consent. The legislature overrode the veto by a vote of 71-24 in the state House and 25-8 in the state Senate.

“I am not ready to say that everything that President Trump threw out there after the election was accurate, but it did motivate people who frankly have been hard to motivate in years past,” said Ken Cuccinelli, a former top official at the Department of Homeland Security for the Trump administration who has been tapped to lead the effort. “That’s my own experience, on this issue,” he added.
Members of the organization “demanded” it engage on election issues “as a pre-condition to be able to make the pro-life case” of further restricting abortions rights, Cuccinelli said in an interview.

Arkansas lawmakers overwhelmingly rejected a veto from Gov. Asa Hutchinson over a bill that would ban experimental puberty blockers, hormonal drugs and the surgical mutilation of minors suffering from gender dysphoria.
The Arkansas House voted 75-25 and the Senate 25-8 on Tuesday afternoon to override the veto on House Bill 1570, also known as the Save Adolescents From Experimentation Act.
Arkansas is the first state in the nation to ban the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and elective cosmetic gender surgeries the mutilation of sex organs on gender dysphoric youth. A handful of other states, mostly across the Southern U.S., are considering similar legislation.

Arkansas became Tuesday the first state to ban gender-reassignment drugs and procedures for minors after the state legislature overrode Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s veto.
The state House voted 71-24 and the state Senate voted 25-8, with two excused, to overturn the veto of House Bill 1570, the Save Adolescents from Experimentation [SAFE] Act.
Both houses are controlled by Republicans. A veto override in Arkansas requires only a simple majority of both chambers.
