American Hospital Association recognizes Iowa Methodist for 100 years of membership Monday, May 24, 2021 11:02 AM The American Hospital Association on Thursday honored UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center for its 100 years of participation and leadership in the AHA. At the UnityPoint Health-Des Moines board meeting, Liz Summy, AHA regional executive, recognized the hospital’s long-standing membership with an award to David Stark, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. While the AHA was founded in 1898, the first year of admitting institutional members was 1919, making Iowa Methodist one of the earliest members of the AHA. AHA wants feds to take action against healthcare cyberattacks

The AHA s advisory comes on the heels of an alert from the Federal Bureau of Investigation last week warning about Conti, a new ransomware variant. At least 16 U.S. healthcare and first responder networks have been hit by Conti, including hospitals, law enforcement agencies, emergency medical services and 911 dispatch centers in the last year, according to the FBI. Targeting healthcare networks can delay access to vital information, potentially affecting care and treatment of patients including cancellation of procedures, rerouting to unaffected facilities, and compromise of protected health information, the FBI s alert reads.
