The Pfizer vaccine is kept ultra-cold while being shipped to central distribution points in Ohio. Then, vaccine vials are sent to hospitals and pharmacies in insulated containers used as temporary storage. The insulated containers use dry ice to maintain low temperatures. The vaccine inside the insulated container is useable for 15 days, as long as the dry ice is replenished every three days. After that time, the vials must be placed back in a deep freeze.
