PELOSI SAYS ENERGY AND COMMERCE WILL PROBE TEXAS CRISIS: Expect a lot of conversation about the Texas power grid and maybe some more renewables vs. fossil fuels bickering in Congress over the next few weeks.

Nancy Pelosi told reporters during her weekly briefing this morning that the Energy and Commerce Committee will look into the Texas power outages “to see how things could have turned out better and will turn out better in the future.”
Texas could have done a better job investing in equipment to keep residents safe during outages like this week's storm that has left millions of residents without power for days.

The short answer is, demand for power and heat skyrocketed due to bitterly and unusually cold weather, pushing Texas’ electricity sector to the brink. It seems some bad timing hasn’t helped either, as some power plants were down for scheduled maintenance right when the snow, ice, and cold hit.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission moved Thursday to dismiss a three-year-old proceeding to determine how to ensure the power grid remains resilient as it transitions away from fossil fuels to cleaner sources of energy.
