Rookie Akil Baddoo hit another home run and Casey Mize threw seven scoreless innings in the best start of his young career as the Detroit Tigers beat the Houston Astros 6-2 Monday night at Minute Maid Park.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak and provided an unlikely rejuvenation for the Tigers’ struggling offense against Astros starter Zack Greinke, one of the league’s best pitchers.

HOUSTON When you’re in a slump, you’ll take any kind of hit you can get. That appeared to be the mindset of Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez when he snapped an 0-for-8 funk by putting down a perfectly placed bunt in the eighth inning of Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the A’s at Minute Maid Park.
The intimidating Alvarez, who bashed his way to 2019 American League Rookie of the Year honors before missing most of last year following knee surgery, executed a perfect bunt to lead off the eighth, rolling it down the third-base line to the bag for a single. It wasn’t as exciting or as exhilarating as one of the tape-measure homers he is prone to crushing, but sometimes less is more. It was the first time in his career he put a bunt into play.
Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela return to New York Yankees lineup
Judge was held out of New York s lineup Wednesday night with soreness in his left side and missed Friday s series opener vs. the Rays. Just trying to be cautious here with him early, not wanting this to be something that does become an issue, and hopefully we re able to get past that and through that in these days ahead, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday.
Judge had a homer, three hits and four RBIs in a 7-2 win over Baltimore on Tuesday night but didn t play in the Yankees 4-3, 11-inning loss a day later. New York had a day off Thursday.
