BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â On Christmas Eve, all eyes will be on the sky eagerly searching for old Saint Nick to cross over. To help us keep track of the big guy, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is setting up its Santa Tracking Hotline.
This morning Preston Schlachter from NORAD joined us to talk about everything that goes into tracking Santa.
The site is available in eight languages which include English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese, and will use its new, Santa-tracking app and its social media channels to post updates throughout the evening. The website has been loaded with games, holiday music, movies, and more to celebrate Christmas.
Some of the games that are available to play include Polar Plunge, Hyper Hockey, and Holiday Marbles. The page also has a ‘Music Stage’ section which includes Christmas hymns. The website also has a section where children can listen and read about Santa and the Christmas tradition and the theatre section includes small films on Santa and the NORAD. The site also has a chatbox, so users can get their queries answered.

Ahead of Christmas, Google and NORAD are making it easier for people to track Santa as part of a tradition that the two companies have followed for several years now. The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa for 65 years as he delivers presents across the globe, while Google’s Santa Tracker came much later in 2004. So, how does NORAD tracks Santa’s flight across the world? According to the website, it takes advantage of its North Warning System radar system that has 47 installations strung across Canada’s North and Alaska. “NORAD makes a point of checking the radar closely for indications of Santa Claus leaving the North Pole every holiday season,” the page read. 33 New York, Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Tony Whitehead, the top enlisted leader in the National Guard Bureau, visited New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen on security duty in New York on Friday, Dec. 11.
Whitehead, whose formal title is National Guard Bureau Senior Enlisted Advisor, visited New York along with General Daniel Hokanson, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Whitehead’s role is to advise Hokanson on issues pertaining to the enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of the National Guard.
During the visit Whitehead spent time with members of Joint Task Force Empire Shield, the New York National Guard security augmentation force in New York City.
