Driver Dies 5 Days After Crash on I-80 East of Cheyenne
The crash happened shortly before midnight on Saturday, March 27, near the Archer Exit on Interstate 80.
Sgt. Jeremy Beck says Michael Gilliland was driving west and was in the act of passing a Ram 2500 when he abruptly entered the right lane and struck the Ram causing him to lose control of his Ford F-350 and roll it. There was no seat belt in use, and he was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled, said Beck. He was transported to the medical facility and then ended up passing away on April 1.
CCHS Receives Funding From Stewart’s Holiday Match Program
The Chenango County Historical Society was recently awarded a donation by the Stewart’s Holiday Match program totaling $750. Funds will go directly to support activities designed to share local history with children and families. In addition to hosting both virtual initiatives and in-person activities, the Chenango County Historical Society is collaborating with other community organizations to expand youth programming. This gift ensures the development of child-friendly and family-focused programs in celebration of Chenango County’s unique cultural heritage.
Since the program’s inception, the Stewart’s Holiday Match has awarded nearly $32 million to a variety of organizations. In 2020, the program received roughly 1,700 applications requesting a total of $5 million in support, and was able to provide $1.88 million in aid, spread across a large array of organizations. Iowa Soldiers Returning From 10-Month Middle East Deployment

Nearly 630 Iowa soldiers who have been deployed to the Middle East for the past 10 months are returning home.
The Iowa Army National Guard is hosting modified community welcome ceremonies for soldiers from the 1st Battalion Ironman 133rd Infantry Regiment. The cememonies will be several cities this weekend, but they will not be open to the public. They will be live-streamed for the public to view.
The soldiers returning to Iowa include a group of about 110 men and women from Davenport, 130 from both Cedar Rapids and Dubuque, and 250 from Waterloo.
Maine To Expand Gatherings To 100% Next Month
If you have anything Big happening in 2021, like a wedding or large gathering, you ll be pleased to know that the The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development has announced they plan to expand the current capacity limits next month on May 24th, according to a news report by WMTW-TV.
As it stands currently, we are at a 50% capacity for any indoor venues or gatherings and at 75% capacity for any outdoors gatherings. Both according to the expansion will be at 100 % come May 24th baring any unforeseen issues.
The report from WMTW-TV also indicates that the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development will be offering a checklist that Mainers can use as guidance when wedding planning or want to ensure the most safety when it comes to having larger gatherings both inside and out.
Yakima Pippins First General Manager Tragically Passes Away
It has been a rough week for fans of professional baseball here in the Yakima Valley.
First we heard the news on Monday (March 29) of the tragic passing of former Yakima Bears Field Manager Mike Bell passing away due to kidney cancer. Today, we have learned of the tragic passing of the Yakima Valley Pippins first-ever General Manager Noel Zanchelli.
Seattle sports radio broadcasting legend Dave The Groz Grosby lamented Zanchelli s passing via his official Twitter account:
Zanchelli came to the Pippins in 2014 after working myriad jobs in and around professional baseball. He was a radio producer for KIRO in Seattle for the Mariners and worked on many projects for the club including their 1995 highlight reel entitled A Season to Remember recounting the incredible ride into the playoffs when the Seattle Mariners refused to lose. Zanchelli is even one of just a couple of people credited for putting it together.
