Divers finish off sweep at America East Championships

The Binghamton divers closed out a tumultuous and uncertain year in the grandest possible way. The Bearcats swept both diving titles on the final day of the America East Championships on Sunday at the Saunders Aquatic Center. Senior Sophia Howard captured the women’s one-meter event while fellow senior David Walters was victorious in the men’s one-meter competition. With the victories, both Walters and Howard won both of their diving events during the weekend and were named the Men’s and Women’s Most Outstanding Divers respectively. With sophomore Ryan Cohn and senior Erik Temple placing second and third in the men’s three-meter event, the Bearcat men swept all three medals for the second day in a row. On Saturday in the men’s one-meter event, Temple was second and Walters was third.

Cedar Creek s Marlee Canale commits to Maine for swimming

JOHN O KANE For The Press Marlee Canale is the kind of student-athlete that any coach would be happy to have on their team. The Cedar Creek High School senior competes just as hard in the classroom as she does in the pool and leads by example in everything she does. That competitiveness will now take her to a Division I swimming program. Canale committed to swim at the University of Maine on a partial athletic/academic scholarship, becoming the second swimmer in school history to compete on the Division I level. Former standout Kauren Kelly swims at Pitt. “Marlee is really the whole package,” Creek coach Lauren Ciccariello said. “She’s on the team to do well with her form and achieve her goals but she also has other things outside of swimming that she wants to do. She’s not just an athlete.”
