India To Import 4.5 Lakh Remdesivir Vials Amid Rising Demand For Antiviral Drug

The Government of India has started importing the vital drug Remdesivir from other countries to ease out the shortage of Remdesivir in the country. The first Consignment of 75,000 vials reached India on Friday (30 April).
HLL Lifecare Ltd, a Government of India owned company has ordered 4,50,000 vials of Remdesivir from M/s Gilead Sciences Inc USA and Egyptian Pharma Company, M/s Eva Pharma.
It is expected that Gilead Sciences Inc, USA will dispatch 75,000 to 1,00,000 vials in the next one or two days. Further one lakh quantities will also be supplied before or by 15 May. EVA pharma will supply approximately 10,000 vials initially followed by 50,000 vials every 15 days or till July, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in a statement.

Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya informed that 25 new manufacturing sites for Remdesivir s production have been approved since 12 April.
He said, âProduction capacity is now ramped up to more than 90 lakhs vials per month, earlier it was 40 lakhs vials per month. Very soon, three lakh vial per day will be produced. Monitoring is being done on a daily basis. We would not leave any stone unturned to supply Remdesivir.â
The Central government on Wednesday (21 April) made interim allocation of the key anti-viral drug for 19 states/Union Territories for the period up to 30 April.
Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers D. V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the 11th Edition of India Chem 2021 in New Delhi with the theme India: Global Manufacturing hub for chemicals and petrochemicals. He stated that the Indian chemicals and petrochemicals industry is growing to new heights, and informed that an investment of Rs 8 lakh crore is anticipated in the sector by 2025.
During his speech, Sadananda Gowda also appreciated that Department and FICCI has organised the event. He added that the growth in the chemical and petrochemicals industry is also contributing to the Prime Minister s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He informed that Government has launched 12 PLI scheme for different sectors which will directly or indirectly benefit the chemicals sector. He also stated that the Government is prioritising the sector and in the Budget 2021-21, the import duty on Naphtha has been reduced from 4.0% to 2.5%.

New Delhi [India], March 17 (ANI): Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, DV Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday said that Rs 8 lakh crore investment are in the pipeline in the Indian chemical industry by 2025.
Gowda inaugurated the 11th Edition of India Chem 2021 in New Delhi with the theme India: Global Manufacturing hub for chemicals and petrochemicals on Wednesday. He stated that the Indian chemicals and petrochemicals industry is growing to new heights, and informed that an investment of Rs 8 lakh crore is anticipated in the sector by 2025.
The government has approved a total of 33 applications with a committed investment of Rs 5,082.65 crore under the production linked incentive scheme for active pharmaceutical ingredients, an official release said on Thursday. Setting up of these plants will make the country self-reliant to a large extent in respect of these bulk drugs, it noted. The Department of Pharmaceuticals has launched a PLI scheme for the promotion of domestic manufacturing by setting up greenfield plants in four different target segments with a total outlay of Rs 6,940 crore for the period 2020-21 to 2029-30. In total, 215 applications have been received for the 36 products spread across the 4 target segments, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in the release.
