Police officers in Dominica are now better prepared to redirect Juvenile Offenders

As Dominica progresses towards the enactment of a Child Justice Bill, 31 police officers participated in a workshop recently to enhance their knowledge of Juvenile Justice Reform. The workshop emphasized diversion provisions within the draft Bill. Diversion creates an opportunity for justice officials to work with children in conflict with the law, their families, community members, victims and other stakeholders to holistically address issues of youth delinquency apart from formal court processes. Diversion is one of the “pillars” of the new legislation, and pre-charge diversion falls squarely within the mandate of law enforcement officers.
Minister wants Youth Facilities to operate for 14 hours a day
“Youth Facilities should eventually be open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at least 6 days a week.” This is the vision of Minister of Youth Development and National Service, the Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds. The Minster was speaking after he visited the St James, Laventille and Malick Youth Facilities on Saturday 6
th February, 2021.
“We have remarkable facilities delivered through significant investments, with which to implement the mandate of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS). Our aim is to advance the youth development agenda and create safe spaces for young people to be trained; so they can contribute to national development,” said Minister Hinds.

THE CO-OPERATIVE Credit Union League of TT (CCULTT), which now falls under the purview of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, has engaged the full attention of the Government and its line ministry.
The league, headed by Joseph Remy, is the parent body for credit unions in TT.
Youth development minister Fitzgerald Hinds gave a feature address on Wednesday when the CCULTT released its calendar of events for 2021, at Radisson Hotel, Port of Spain.
