New Delhi, Jan 27 : Despite the declining trend in new Covid-19 cases, the Central government on Wednesday extended the safety guidelines directing the states and Union Territories (UTs) to maintain surveillance and follow containment measures till February 28. However, more relaxations have been permitted.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday issued new Covid-19 guidelines for the functioning of public spaces such as cinema halls, theatres and swimming pools.
Swimming pools, which were earlier opened for exclusive use by athletes, can now be used by all. A revised standard operating procedure (SOP) will be issued by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in consultation with MHA in this regard.

Cinema halls and theatres will be allowed to operate with higher occupancy, the centre has announced in its revised coronavirus guidelines. The updated standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been issued amid a steady decline in daily Covid numbers across the country, also allow the reopening of swimming pools for all. Cinema halls and theatres have already been permitted upto 50% of seating capacity. Now they will be permitted to operate at higher seating capacity, for which a revised SOP will be issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in consultation with MHA (the Ministry of Home Affairs), it said in a release.
Cinema halls and theatres can operate with more people from February 1, while swimming pools have been allowed to reopen for all, according to a fresh Covid-19 guideline issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday.
There shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of people and goods including those for cross land-border trade under treaties with neighbouring countries, it said.
No separate permission/ approval/ e-permit will be required for such movements, the MHA said.
All activities have been permitted outside containment zones, except a few which will be subject to strict adherence of SOPs.
Social, religious, sports, entertainment, educational, cultural, religious gatherings have already been permitted up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the hall capacity, with a ceiling of 200 people in closed spaces; and keeping of the size of the ground or space in view, in open spaces.

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday issued national Covid guidelines for the month of February, announcing opening of swimming pools for all, permitting cinema halls to function at a higher capacity, allowing opening of exhibition halls and giving states the discretion to decide capacity of gatherings.
The civil aviation ministry may take a decision on further opening of international air travel in consultation with the MHA based on the assessment of the situation, it said. At present, social, religious, sports, entertainment, educational, cultural, religious gatherings are permitted up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the hall capacity, with a ceiling of 200 people in closed spaces; and keeping of the size of the ground or space in view, in open spaces.
