New Delhi, Feb 9 : The Centre on Tuesday said that as part of the AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has launched the centrally sponsored PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme for providing financial, technical and business support for upgradation of two lakh micro food processing enterprises.

The first Kisan Rail from Telangana has been loaded with turmeric from Warangal station in Secunderabad Division. The rail has been loaded with 230 tons of dry turmeric in 10 Parcel Vans and is being transported to Barasat station of Sealdah Division in West Bengal. South Central Railway (SCR) has started the first ‘Kisan Rail’ from Telangana, transporting turmeric from Warangal station to the Barasat station of Sealdah division (West Bengal) to assist the farm sector in marketing their agricultural produce for better price realisation.
The State’s first Kisan Rail on Monday was loaded with 230 tons of dry turmeric in 10 parcel vans to provide a hassle-free, safe and fast transport services for the marketing of the agriculture sector. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has already announced extension of 50% tariff concession on the transportation of notified fruits and vegetables through Kisan Rail trains, under “Operation Greens - TOP to Total”, said General Manager Gajanan Mallya.

Rameswar Teli, Minister of State, Food Processing Industries, Government of India said that a well-developed food processing sector with a higher level of processing helps to reduce wastage, improvise value addition, encourage crop diversification, ensure better RoI (Return on Investment) for farmers, boost employment along with growth in export earnings.
Addressing the inaugural session of India s 1st Virtual Processed Food Expo organised by Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India in association with FICCI, Teli said that there is a plethora of opportunities in the food processing sector for growth in employment and export potential.
