JSC discusses access to education
Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly - SUREASH CHOLAI
THE Human Rights, Equality and Diversity parliamentary joint select committee will hold a virtual meeting on March 5 to discuss the issue of the right to equal access to education.
The Parliament s website says the committee will specifically focus on the underachievement of schools in the Port of Spain and environs district with respect to performance in terminal examination .
This JSC is chaired by Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby- Dolly. Minister in the Ministry of Education Lisa Morris-Julian is one of the committee s members. Social Development Minister Donna Cox, Rural Development and Local Government Minister Kazim Hosein, Tunapuna MP Esmond Forde, Princes Town MP Barry Padarath, Opposition Senator Jearlean John and Independent Senator Hazel Thompson-Ahye are the committee s other members. The meeting begins from 10 am.
Ministers tour Secondary Schools upon Physical Reopening
As secondary schools across Trinidad and Tobago opened their doors today to students of Forms 4-6, Minister of Education Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly and Minister in the Ministry of Education Lisa Morris-Julian were on site at schools across Trinidad. The Ministers and a team of officials visited St. Augustine Secondary, Couva West Secondary, Diego Martin North Secondary and St James Secondary Schools. During the tours, the team sought to assess the preparedness of the schools with health and safety protocols and the disposition of students and teachers upon their return.
All schools made the necessary preparations according to the Guidelines for Physical Reopening of Schools as issued by the Ministry of Education and, at each venue, students and staff were seen social distancing, sanitizing and wearing masks. If the in-person classroom experience goes well for forms five and six students, then standard five students will be able to resume physical classes to prepare for the Secondary Entrance Assessment exam on April 12.
