Municipality workers jump queue for social housing in luxury Lithuanian resort – LRT Investigation

The municipality of Neringa, which covers the Curonian Spit known for its luxurious resorts, has the country s longest social housing waiting list. Yet the ones getting new flats are the municipality employees, LRT investigation team reports.
Currently, 57 people or 29 families are waiting for social housing in the country’s smallest municipality Neringa on the Curonian Spit, according to the Ministry of Social Security and Labour. On average, the waiting process for young families could last as long as 12 years.
In order to speed up the waiting process and build the needed social housing stock, the country s smallest municipality received 158,000 euros from the European Union in 2017, but the planned construction in the town of Preila is yet to start.

Amid confirmation that the North Korean authorities have tightened access to Pyongsan, North Hwanghae Province – the site of the Pyongsan Uranium Concentrate Plant – officials have begun construction on a new political prison camp in the area, Daily NK has learned. The authorities appear to have approved the camp’s construction to mobilize manpower to mine and refine uranium.
A high-level source told Daily NK on Friday that efforts to build the new political prison camp in the Pyongsan area are already underway. The authorities reportedly mobilized low-ranking soldiers attached to the Ministry of Social Security and people from nearby areas to serve in labor brigades for the construction project.

A West Nipissing man is charged with child porn offences after police executed a search of his residence late last week.

North Korean authorities transfer management of special road near Sinuiju to Ministry of State Security

North Korean authorities reportedly renamed a road near the North Korea-China border and transferred its management from the Ministry of Social Security to the Ministry of State Security. They cited past negligence in management and the need for strengthened security for military facilities as reasons for the changes.
A source told Daily NK on Monday that the State Affairs Commission changed the name of “Road 123” to “Road 7.27” on Mar. 26. The commission also ordered that the Ministry of Social Security transfer the road’s management to the Ministry of State Security.
