Unhappy over delayed highway projects which amount to Rs 3.15 lakh crore, a parliamentary panel has asked Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to prioritise their completion instead of announcing new projects. The delayed 888 projects pertain to construction of 27,665 km of national highways.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highwaysâ (MoRTH) new vehicle scrapping policy will permit owners of old vehicles to receive certificates that can be used to avail a discount or a waiver in the registration charges whilst purchasing a new car. Additionally, the owners will be allowed to trade or transfer their certificates to someone else if they do not wish to buy a new vehicle.
This new scheme, which is to be notified soon, aims at incentivizing old vehicle owners to explore the newer alternatives in the market in place of their outdated and high pollution-causing automobiles.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced a new scheme, under which any tourist vehicle operator may apply for an All India Tourist Authorisation/Permit via online mode. It will be issued, after relevant documents are submitted and fees deposited, in 30 days of submission of such applications, the ministry said.
According to the proposal, all vehicles belonging to the Central and State governments, Union Territories, local government institutions, PSUs, STUs, and other autonomous bodies with the Central and State governments, have been put under the ambit of this new proposed amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (1989).
