ECC reduces tax on commercial sugar imports to 0.25pc   Published On 20 January,2021 11:02 pm The reduction in taxes will incentivize the sugar mills for import of 300,000 MT Raw Sugar ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet Wednesday approved reduction of Withholding Income Tax on commercial import of white sugar and raw sugar form 5.5% to 0.25% besides approving removal of Value Added Sales Tax on import of white sugar. The approval was given on the presentation of summary by Ministry of Industries and Production for import of sugar with an aim to reduce upward pressure on prices of sugar and to buffer up carryover stocks before the arrival of the fresh crop.

PBS mandated to rebase the national accounts Business January 2, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The government has mandated Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to go ahead with approval of much-awaited re-basing of national accounts from fiscal year 2005-6 to 2015-16 in order to capture the latest ongoing economic activities. Secretary Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives Mathar Niaz Rana visited PBS on Friday and chaired a meeting on the activities of PBS particularly on national accounts, price statistics and the digital initiatives taken by PBS by shifting from paper based data collection to tablet based data collection. The meeting was attended by the chief economist, members and senior officers of PBS. Rana was briefed about the national accounts compilation methodology and the status of various census, surveys and studies conducted by PBS for rebasing the national accounts from 2005-06 to 2015-16.

He said that people’s lives and livelihood are directly attached to this project.
